Emailed Proposal (3%)
To demonstrate successfully reading your instructor’s Email Guidelines document and the “How to email your professor” article, and also submit a preliminary proposal describing the community you wish to research for your project you will send an email describing the community you wish to research, including your connection to that site, and why you think it is a good choice for your research project. You will NOT propose any of the communities your instructor has already declared off limits.
This email should follow ALL of the guidelines laid out in the article you read and answer all of this prompt.
It should only be about 2-4 sentences long.

Response Papers/Assignments (21%)
There will be seven response paper/assignments throughout the semester. These include:
1) Interview Questions: 20 questions (10-15 should be open ended)
2) Site Permission Form & Informed Consent Form (Forms can be found on class home page under extra forms/docs)
3) Description A (500 words)
4) Description B (500 words)
5) Description C (500words)
6)a) 3 Sources: A bibliography of 3 outside sources that pertain to students' research. These must be scholarly peer reviewed articles found on library database
6)b) 3 annotations (80-100 words each no include bib info): Scholarly Peer reviewed articles found on library database. IF you include a quote from the source it should be no longer than a 5 word phrase and MUST be cited still (to avoid plagiarism).
7) Research Questions: You will compose four research questions of your own that pertain to literacies and your individual community.


Fieldwork Portfolio (7%)
You will bring your Fieldwork Portfolio to class on presentation day and have it with you at the CSW. This Portfolio will consist of:
*Notes from at least THREE field visits (this will NOT be your response papers or WA4, these are authentic field notes; they may be handwritten)
*A script of at least three interviews (these must be typed)
*Your signed permission form from the person "in charge" (director, coach, manager, organizer, etc.)
*Signed consent forms from each participant you interact with (especially those you interviewed)
*A new printed copy of your annotated bibliography (by "new" I mean NOT the copy that has your grade and any of my comments on it)
*Literacy Practices and Events Page (can be downloaded from "1302 Class Home" -file name Quiz 4)
*A new printed copy of your research questions
*Any other material you gather from your field work and research



In-class Work and Participation (7%)
Students will be accepted to show up for class, participate in class discussions, group work, quizzes, and other in class assignments.



Conferences (2%)
There will be two conferences during the semester that students will sign up for during class. Students will be expected to show up for the time that they sign up for. Conferences will be held back to back, so students who miss their time will not be able to make it up.
